Bookshelf fantasy

I fantasize on so many weird things sometimes.

One of my fantasies is to have a kick-ass bookshelf. Kick-ass means functional and creative at the same time. I don't want a shelf that's only pleasing to the eyes and cannot serve it's main purpose, which is to hold and organize as many books as it can. Though a good sturdy traditional bookshelf would have to do, I would also want one that is creative enough to invite you to peek and look around.

But if going overboard is the case and if I'm really truly crazy rich....

I'd definitely have a cool floor to ceiling bookshelf with a movable ladder that you could use to swing from one end to another like what Belle does in Beauty and the Beast. I'd want a pleasing, geometrical design on compartments, designed by a local artist with base colors of apple green and wood colors. I'd request the makers to even utilize the ceiling if need be with stairwells and balconies to gain access.

Of course the shelves would have to be technologically sophisticated, engineered to preserve books for years. Devoid of oxygen and strictly sealed to avoid contact with acidic vapors. Materials of the equipment should be exactly like those used in the Vatican's holy library. Lighting definitely should be of the best quality.

From bookshelves to catalogs, it would be impeccable. The records would be updated and the database would be up to speed. All books will be marked, sealed and labeled. I can personally have myself trained by a librarian, get my special degree, still hire a librarian and I shall be the one to oversee the archiving. The shelves would dictate the outline of the room. There would be secret doors and emergency locks to protect from theft and natural calamities.

That's just a random peek of going overboard.

But looking at these random creative bookshelves at freshom.com and web urbanist.com, I cannot help but gaze and appreciate the art involved in reading. I can imagine all the the book lovers and book collectors wanting one. It would absolutely be a dream come true.

This is one of my favorites. Just make the shelves bigger, more secured with a comfy reading couch in the middle, now that would be perfect. Reading and surrounding yourself with books literally is a cool thought.

I agree in utilizing the ceiling part.

If this were in my room, I doubt if I'll ever leave.
